Township 11 February 1835; both buried Conneaut Cemetery.

- 1874 CCo. Directory, p. 34 (history of Cambridge Twp.): Archibald Humes and Michael Sherred, from Susquehanna county, came about the same time [1797]. The former built the first grist mill in this part of the county.
- 1876 CCo. Atlas, p. 24, under history of Cambridge Twp.: The first settlers in this locality were Robert Humes, Michael Sherred, Archibald Humes, John Shearer, and Henry Baugher.... Id., p. 24¼ (history of Woodcock Twp.): The first saw-mill erected in the township was built at the mouth of Gravel Run by Archibald Humes. Soon after, he added the grist-mill now owned by Mr. Apple.

- Pioneers, p. 10 (biog., ARCHIBALD HUMES born in Ireland about 1739, he lived for a time in Lycoming County before settling in what became Woodcock township in Crawford County. He was a veteran of the Revolutionary War. He erected the first sawmill in the northern part of the county, not very far from Dicksons gristmill. Later, Humes added a gristmill. His wifes name was Mary. They had seven children: Betsey, Mary, Jane, Thomas, James, John M. and Archibald, Jr. The older Archibald died in 1832.)
