Origins:	Settled by James Kerr, James Curry, and Peter and Daniel Titus in 1797. Oil Creek P.O. established 1848, but “more commonly known as Hydetown, from the Hydes, who were among the first settlers, and largely owners of the territory within its limits.”¹

	Court grant the prayer of the petitioners [for incorporation of] a borough with the following limits to be called the Borough of Oil Creek to wit Beginning at center of Public Road leading from Newtons Mill to Hydetown; thence by land of D. T. Titus n. 1—° e. 30.4 perches to line of Tracts; thence by land of widow Newtons s. 87—° e. 175.9 perches to J Bennett line; thence n. 3° e. 12.4 perches to corner in said line; thence by land of J Bennett s. 87—° e. 76.2 perches to Moores line; thence by said Moores land s. 4° w. 44.3 perches to corner; thence by Moores land s. 87—° e. 115.6 perches to corner of Sotts; thence s. 2° w. by Oil Cos land 143.3 perches to John Titus corner; thence by Mill Lot s. 89° e. 132.5 perches to corner; thence by land of John Kerr and J. 8 May 1882	Name changed to Hydetown.³
	Ordered that the charter of the Borough of Oil Creek be amended by changing the name of said Borough to the Borough of Hydetown.
