Conneaut lake, Sadsbury township, Crawford co. a beautiful sheet of water, having an area of 4 ms. by 2, abounding with fish. It forms a link in the water communication between the Allegheny r. and lake Erie.

French creek, a large stream of north western Penn. rises in Chatauque co. New York and pursuing a comparative course of 15 miles S. W. enters Pennsylvania, in Erie co. and thence continuing the same course, about 35 miles, to Meadville, in Crawford co. it there receives the Cussawago from the N. W.; thence running S. E. 25 ms. it unites with the Allegheny river at the borough of Franklin in Venango co. It is navigable as high as the mouth of Le Boeuf creek 5 ms. S. from Waterford. The French creek feeder intended to feed the contemplated canal from the Allegheny river to Erie, commences at Bemus' mills, on the E. side of the creek, about 2 ms. N. of Meadville, passes through the town, and to about 6 miles below it, where it crosses the creek, and falls into the valley of the outlet of Conneaut lake, which it pursues to the summit level near the lake with which it communicates. The length of the feeder is 19½ miles; it is nearly completed. The estimated cost, is $250,000.

Shenango Creek, or Small river,rises in the N. W. angle of Crawford co., in Beavier t-ship, and flows S. E. into Delaware t-ship, Mercer co., where, making what is termed the Big Bend, it runs W. and S. W. into Shenango t-ship, whence turning S. E. it runs through that and Mahoning t-ships, into the Mahoning r. Shenango t-ship, Beaver co., and with its recipient forms Big Beaver river.

Sugar creek, Venango co., rises in Crawford co., and flows S. through Plumb t-ship, and between Oil Creek and Sugar Creek t-ships, in Venango co. into French creek, about 4 miles above the borough of Franklin.

Sugar lake, Wayne t-ship, Crawford co. a handsome sheet of water over a mile in diameter, whence proceeds a branch of Sugar creek running S. E. into Sugar Creek t-ship, Venango co. It gives name to a post office near it, which is 307 ms. N. W. of W. C., and 240 from Harrisburg.
